How does an Online class work?
All work for your online class is done online. There are no classes at Los Medanos College – instead you complete all assignments using an Internet connected computer.

How to Enroll in the Course
You must sign up for COMSC 049 through the Administration Office or Online at http://www.losmedanos.edu. This course fills up quickly so make sure you enroll as soon as possible.

How to Log into Blackboard
This course uses Los Medanos College's Blackboard system located at http://online.losmedanos.edu. The next step is to log in to the Los Medanos College Blackboard website. Simply click the button at the left labeled BlackBoard. When Blackboard opens, click the Login button, and you will be prompted to enter your username and password.
Your username will be your first initial of your first name followed by your full last name and the last 3 digits of your student ID number. For example, if your name is John Doe and your student ID number is 0102381, you would enter jdoe381 for your username.
Your password is your 6-digit birth date. For example, if you were born April 12, 1979, then you would enter 41279 as your password.
Once you are logged into Blackboard you should see this class as well as any other online class that you are currently enrolled in. Click on the COMSC 049 - Computer Literacy link and you will be taken to the first menu for the course. Make sure to read all announcements, then read the Syllabus and the Assignments. All of the information necessary for completing your online is in this area.

You will need two textbooks:
- New Perspectives Computer Concepts, 10th Edition, (Introductory)
ISBN-10: 1-4239-0610-1
ISBN-13: 978-1-7423--0609-4
- Practical Series - Microsoft Practical Office 2007
ISBN-10: 1-4239-0604-7
These two books are available at the Los Medanos College Bookstore. Ask for the Online books for COMSC 049. The books are also available directly from the publisher, and can be shipped directly to you. Click on the Course Direct button located in the left pane, and search for the books by the ISBN number.
You will also need to purchase one (1) floppy disk to save your tracking data on.
