Electronic databases

The following electronic databases are provided for use by students, faculty, and staff of Los Medanos College. To use these databases from off campus you will be asked to enter your last name and 7-digit student or employee ID number. Your student ID number, e.g., 0012345, is included in your class schedule or receipt. Your employee ID number is included on your paycheck.

Journal, Magazine & Newspaper Databases
CQ Researcher Explores a single "hot" issue in the news in depth each week. Topics range from social and teen issues to environment, health, education, and science and technology.
Ethnic News Watch

Provides full-text articles from newspapers, magazines, and journals of the ethnic, minority, and native press.

Expanded Academic ASAP Provides bibliographic citations, abstracts and full-text articles on Current Events, Economics, History, Psychology, Humanities, Religion, Education, Literature & Art, Science, Sociology, Political Science, and more.
NewsBank Provides full-text articles from the Contra Costa Newspapers (21 titles), Sacramento Bee, San Francisco Chronicle and 26 news magazines.
ProQuest Newspapers Provides full-text articles from four national newspapers - Christian Science Monitor, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and the Washington Post.
SIRS Researcher Provides thousands of full-text articles on social, scientific, health, historic, business, economic, political and global issues. Articles are from around 1,500 newspapers, magazines, journals and government publications.
Specialized Databases
Annals of American History

Provides a year-by-year documentary of American thought and action, including primary sources, from 1493 through today.

ARTstor ARTstor is a digital library of approximately 700,000 images in the areas of art, architecture, the humanities and social sciences, with tools to manage those images for presentation in a classroom setting.
Biography Resource Center Combines award-winning biographies from respected Gale Group sources. Use this database to research noted figures.
Books in Print Access to almost 2 million titles that are in print, forthcoming, or declared out-of-print. Complete bibliographic information and is updated monthly.
Britannica Online
Includes the complete encyclopedia, as well as more than 130,000 links to Web sites selected, rated, and reviewed by Britannica editors.
College Source Access to 29,274 college catalogs in full cover-to-cover, original page format. Includes 2-year, 4-year, graduate, professional and international schools.
Country Watch Provides up-to-date information and data on countries of the world.
ERIC (Education Resources Information Center) ERIC is one of the world's largest databases of education literature. It provides access to more than 1.2 million journal articles and other education-related materials, many in full-text.
FACTS.com Contains Facts On File News Digest and six other reference databases (World News Special Features, Reuters News, Issues & Controversies,Today's Science, World Almanac Reference Database and World Almanac Encyclopedia). Provides detailed news coverage about events, issues, statistics and people of the last 60+ years.

Grove Art Online

Contains over 45,000 scholarly articles on world art, with over 40,000 Web links to images and additional art-related information in museums, galleries and art collections around the world.

Grove Music Online

Contains 29,000 articles written by over 6,000 international contributors on every aspect of music and covering all time periods.

Literature Resource Center-LRC

Provides access to biographies, bibliographies, and critical analyses of authors from every age and literary discipline. Covers more than 120,000 novelists, poets, essayists, journalists, and other writers.
National Library Alliance An online healthcare reference tool that contains the full text of 40 nursing reference titles, including several titles from Delmar.
Nursing Resource Center Designed for nursing students, but also useful for biology and psychology students. Contains disease and drug overviews, care plans, journal articles and animated anatomy and physiology diagrams.
Public Library of Science (PLoS) PLoS publishes peer-reviewed, open-access scientific and medical research articles, focusing particularly on biology, medicine, computational biology, genetics, pathogens, tropical diseases and clinical trials.
PubMed One of the most complete medical databases in existence (more than 17 million articles, many in full text).
RAND California
More than 100 statistical databases covering California, with many at the county, city, and zip code level. About 15 of the databases cover all 50 U.S. states.
World Data Analyst Offers detailed statistical comparisons of countries across the world, using both the most recent statistics and historical figures. Allows subscribers to create tables, charts, and even export information to a spreadsheet for printing and data crunching.
