LMC Reading and Writing Center Header

ALERT:

We have been experiencing unexplained technical problems and do not always receive submissions. You will NOT receive notification of this problem, and submissions may be lost in cyber-space. Therefore, we highly recommend that you call the Center (439-2181 ext 3176) as soon as possible to verify that we have received your work.

Online Consultations
Face-to-face consultations are the most effective method for helping you with your college papers, and we highly recommend that you visit the Center whenever possible. (Please call (925) 439-2181 ext 3176 to schedule an appointment.) However, when face-to-face consultations are not possible, online writing consultations are an alternative method of receiving advice about papers. As with on-site consultations in the Writing Center, you do not have to have a complete draft. You may submit your essay at any stage in the writing process, or you may simply have questions about your assignment before you start writing. The comments you will receive from the consultant will be constructive suggestionsto help you improve your writing. Please allow up to two writing center business days (48 hours) for us to read and respond to your papers. The Center is closed weekends and holidays during the semester, so we will not respond to papers during these times.

Requests will be processed Monday – Thursday 8:30am – 4:00 pm and Friday 8:30 am to 2:00 pm. We will alert you via your email that we have received your request. If you do not receive notice or a response from us, please call the Center at (925) 439-2181 ext 3176.

The Online Session
As the Center’s mission is to provide writing instruction, (coaching) consultants do not proofread or edit papers. We primarily look at global issues (development, organization, logic). We will direct your attention to style and grammar problems by marking areas of concern. On longer papers, we will mark only the first two pages for style and grammar convention errors. Please limit your submission to 5 pages. If yourpaper is longer, please select and submit the areas that concern you the most, and if possible, include your working thesis statement.

Please allow two writing center business days (48 hours) for us to read and respond to your papers. The Center is closed weekends and holidays during the semester, so we will not respond to papers during these times.

During peak periods or limited staffing, we may not be able to respond to you in a timely fashion. We will let you know as soon as possible if this is likely to happen.

After receiving your paper, consultants will do the following:
  • Provide feedback to you by using the insert comment function. The Consultant’s comments will appear in the margin.
  • Send verification to your instructor informing him or her about any comments or suggestions made to you. We will also keep a copy of our comments in the Writing Center.

When your paper is returned to you, please do the following:

  • Respond to any of the consultant’s questions.
  • Revise the paper and resubmit or visit the center if you wish and due date allows.
  • Revise and turn it into your instructor.
  • Remember that the ultimate responsibility for correctness and completeness of your papers rests with you.
To send your draft or questions to a writing consultant:
  • Complete the following form.
  • Answer all of the questions.
  • Paste a copy of your draft into box #11
    • NOTE: If you would rather submit your draft as an email attachment then fill the form out below and state that you will email the draft in the last question and say what the title of your document is. When you hit submit you will be redirected to a page that has an email address you can use to submit your draft via email if you wish.
